TOWN is pleased to announce its partnership with The Crown Estate on an exciting initiative to deliver community-focused, sustainable housing at Westwick Row – a 5-acre site in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire.

This project is part of The Crown Estate’s broader programme of housing demonstration projects, which aims to tackle some of the most pressing challenges in UK housing, including sustainability, affordability, and quality, by testing new approaches to design, engagement and delivery.

The Crown Estate has selected TOWN, along with GS8 and Igloo, to pilot new approaches to sustainable housing development across three sites. These demonstration projects aim to deliver exemplary homes and set a benchmark for sustainable, inclusive, and community-focused housing. The goal of these projects is  to generate valuable insights into innovative construction methods and design principles. These learnings will inform future projects across The Crown Estate’s extensive portfolio, paving the way for scaling up sustainable housing solutions across the UK.

TOWN will lead the delivery of 80 homes at Westwick Row in Hemel Hempstead. This project represents an opportunity to explore innovative housing models, such as collaborative and intergenerational housing, while engaging deeply with the local community and future residents to ensure the new neighbourhoods reflects their needs and priorities.

“The UK’s housing sector desperately needs more innovation if it is to deliver the quality, affordable homes that the current and future UK population needs. These housing demonstration projects are an opportunity for us to test innovative approaches to sustainable design and help us understand how to scale up across the country.”
